Luba LUKOVA

Internationally renown, New York based Luba Lukova is regarded as one of the most distinctive image makers working today. She has held solo exhibitions at UNESCO in Paris, France, DDD Gallery in Osaka, Japan, La MaMa Gallery in New York and the Art Institute of Boston, US (2008). She is the Honor Laureate at the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition in the US and has won many awards, including the Icograda Excellence Award at the International Poster and Graphic Design Festival of Chaumont, France, first prize at the International Poster Biennale in Mexico, the Grand Prix Savignac at the International Poster Salon in Paris, France and Gold Pencil Awards at the One Club in New York. She holds honorary doctoral degree from the Art Institute of Boston.


Lukova’s thought-provoking graphic art has been published in numerous national publications including The New York Times, Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and The Nation. She has received commissions from Harvard and Columbia Universities, Sony Music, Verve Records, Adobe Systems, Delta Airlines, the Ministry of Culture of France, The Living Theatre and the War Resisters League. Her works have been acquired for the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Toyama, Japan, Denver Art Museum, the National Library of France in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts in Mons, Belgium, the Library of Congress and the World Bank in Washington, DC, US. Her collections have been displayed around the world and were also among the prestigious exhibits showcased at the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington, DC. She is the author of the critically acclaimed Social Justice poster portfolio containing visual reactions to many of the pressing issues of our time; since its publication in 2008, the portfolio has been exhibited widely in the US and around the world. Lukova’s new book, Graphic Guts (Clay & Gold), featuring her social commentary art will be published later this year.
